Ruth's Diner...speak out or lose out

My friend Kayla had a birthday on the 27th. We went to celebrate last night at Ruth's Diner. It was so much fun! I love that place now. I had never been, but I for sure will be going back! Happy Birthday Kayla! Thanks for celebrating with us! Love ya!

{Me . KaDee . Annalyse . Kayla . Jessica . Katie}

We had a lot of fun taking pictures. Between the tri pod, horse face, these pretend bikes, attempting jumping pictures (key word: attempting. Notice none made this post...) we had a good time. I even think some people thought we were drunk. Can a girl not have fun sober?!

loving this

a lot.
'These songs are about growing up, experiencing life, love, making mistakes, and learning from them. There are so many battles that we all have to go through in life that are for us to learn from, we grow stronger from them. This is about becoming the person you want to be, having will power and letting nothing hold you back. Try not to let things pass you by, start making things happen that you really want in life!' -Colbie Caillat
I think I will be listening to this a lot for now.

PC Half

Yesterday was the Park City Half Marathon.
It was fun!
I was not totally prepared for it but oh well!
I didn't do too bad.
Not my best,
but not my worst.
It was awesome running through the mountains like that.
It was a trail run which was new for me.
It was also an out and back which was new.
My body is feeling the ill-preparedness today.
But it was worth it!
My goal is to do at least two half marathons a year
and this was my second this year so I think I am done.
Until Moab.

{my number}

{me and Liz on our way up. Looking good at 5:30 am}

One of my friends is about to leave on an incredible journey.
Erin is leaving this week to Washington D.C.
She will be attending George Washington University.
I am so excited for her!
{and maybe a little jealous}
I know this is going to be a great experience for her.

We went to a little going away party for her Saturday night.
Thanks Erickson's for hosting!

Good luck Erin!
Love ya tons!
{hope to be out for a visit soon!}

Getting Busy

Things around here are getting really busy.
Between the wedding and getting ready for school
I don't think I have a free Saturday until after October 10th.

Kristy and Ben thought it would be a good idea for me and Kristy to have a little quality sister time before life changes. So, we got a hotel and headed to Park City for the night last Friday night. We went and had dinner at Plates on our way out. Then we went and hit a few of the most important outlets. Then we went and hung out at the hotel.

Saturday we got up, ate breakfast and then went shopping. We shopped until we were starving, then went and ate some yummy lunch at Loco Lizard. After lunch we went back to the outlets to finish up our shopping spree.

After shopping till we almost dropped, we left Park City and went to the Fashion Place Mall. Like we {I} didn't buy enough in PC. I am glad we went there though because I found the perfect outfit for the wedding!

It was so much fun spending a little time with Kristy before the wedding. I am so thankful I have gotten to be such a part of this wedding. It is so fun planning and getting ready for it. It's not exactly what I expected doing it without mom, but I am glad we are here for each other through these times.

I love Kristy and I am so thankful she found Ben. She could not have found anyone more perfect for her! I love you guys!

Thanks for the fun weekend Kristy!
It was so fun!
I love you!

{that's luxury}

{leaving our hotel}

{like she doesn't already have enough bags...}

{looks like we did alright}

love/hate relationship

I have never been a lover of school.
I like it.
But some people just really love it.
I am not one of those.
So to finish my program in two years,
I decided to do summer semesters.
Of course I hated waking up to be to class at seven a.m.
And of course I hated going one night from five until eight.
But I loved the laid back attitude of the teachers.
And I loved that it was only ten weeks.
I loved that the teachers made us do less assignments than normal.
But most of all,
I love that as of today I am done with another semester!
I also love that I am now half way done!
One year down, one to go.
I hope I can survive!
Looking back at how fast this first year went by,
I think I can do it!

Cabin Trip

Last Thursday me, KaDee and Rebecca headed up to the cabin. After 22 years of going to the cabin this was a trip of firsts. First time without dad, therefore first time driving up on my own, and first time taking friends. After those 22 years you would think I know how to get there on my own. Well, I didn't. But, with some directions from dad before we left we made it there with no wrong turns. I was pretty proud! We went to the cabin to drop off our stuff and then headed to Alpine for some dinner at the new hamburger place. Talk about a heart attack! It is delicious though! I am just glad I do not eat like that on a regular basis!

The next day we swam most of the morning. Then we got ready and went to Afton to check it out. KaDee got her some cowboy boots at the same place I got mine. They are super cute!

We ate at the fish place for dinner. Another heart attack, but yummy!

Then it was off to the Lincoln County Fair. Not what it used to be that is for sure! They used to have entertainers come - legends like Chris Ledoux, Randy Travis etc. This year there was no entertainment but a silly hypnotist. And all the booths were just food. Oh well! We did go to the rodeo which was pretty fun. Kristy and Ben joined us too. It was fun to have something to do, just sad it has gone down hill. I hear next year Tim and Faith are going to be there...

The next day we went to Jackson. It was chilly and rainy but it was still nice. I love it up there!

Rebecca had to be home for a farewell Sunday so she left around five that night. KaDee and I went to dinner with Kristy and Ben to Q BBQ. I had never been there before but it was pretty good. Then we went to see 'Julie and Julia' and I loved it! I knew I would! I am just glad it lived up to my expectations. The movie theater in Jackson is worse than the dollar movies but the workers there made up for it! Good times!

It was a fun little weekend vaca. I am glad we went. KaDee and I are already planning another trip. Maybe sometime in October. I am so lucky to have all the great memories I do of the cabin. It is so much fun! I love it there!

spandex game

played the human spandex game tonight.
i think i broke my knee
if that's possible.
i guess that is what happens when
girls wont play
and you end up playing with three boys.
and at one time seven...
{and for the record, more than four does NOT work}

totally worth it though!

FHE Monday was at the Bishops "farm".
He has lots of horses.
His daughter Amy did a little program with one of her horses.
She talked about agency and how like her horse follows her
we should follow the Lord.
Her horse sometimes does not follow her.
That is when life is hard for the horse.
Just like us.
After her lesson
some people rode the horses around the stable.
Bishop told me and KaDee that we can go up another time and actually ride the horses.
So I just held Amy's baby instead.
Her name is Blake.
She is super cute!
I think we bonded!

my new favorite thing

Cake Balls.
{I am trying to come up with a better name}

Here is what you do...

bake a cake.
let it cool.
crumble the cake.
mix an entire can of frosting with the cake.
roll into balls.
{maybe even freeze for a few minutes}
dip in chocolate.

The fun thing about these is you can do any kind of cake and frosting combo. The ones I made were lemon cake and fluffy white frosting. They were delicious! The possibilities are endless! I am excited to try more. My next venture...rainbow chip cake! How cute will that be?!

Summer under the stars

Last Friday night was Summer Social.

We did a movie under the stars in Ben's backyard. {thanks again Ben!} It was lots of fun! We watched Elf. One of my all time favorites! Some people were not totally for this choice of film, but once it got started everyone was laughing! How can you not? I told them to think of it as Christmas in July! It was a good time!
The 29th was Matt's birthday. We were going to make this a celebration of his birth, but then he was going to be out of town so we didn't plan anything special. Then last minute he did not go out of town so we sang happy birthday and celebrated. A little bit.

When at a house that three boys live, you cannot just find birthday candles on a whim. What you can find is decor candles. And yes, that is a mini cupcake!

eatin' banana pancakes

{'if those eggs are fake could they be called feggs?' -Ben Hodgkinson}

{I think their faces describe how much they love ihop}

{ihop version of banana pancakes}

Went to a late night dinner with Kristy and Ben last week.
Where do you end up when it is late.
And you are hungry enough to eat almost anything?
I did hear about their banana pancakes and I have always wanted to try real Hawaiian banana pancakes.
I should have waited till Hawaii to try them...
We had a good time anyway.

Locks of Love

My little niece Avery has the longest, thickest most beautiful hair that I have ever seen on any 4 year old. Avery has always loved The Little Mermaid so she calls her hair her mermaid hair. Her mom has wanted to cut it for a long time because it is so hard to take care of and Avery does not like getting it done so it was always down and in her face.

One Sunday I just was teasing Avery about it and asked her if we could cut it. She actually said YES! She usually screams and runs away. So, Michelle took advantage of this opportunity and cut her hair!

I told Avery about when I cut mine and donated it. She thought that was pretty cool so we looked at the Locks of Love website and she agreed to cut 10 inches and donate it. She was so excited!

She was good and just let Michelle cut it right off! She was so proud after! It was adorable to see her carry around her cut off pony tail in the bag all excited to donate it.

Now that she got it all styled she looks so adorable! She did before too of course, but her little bob is so cute on her little face!

Good job Avery! Someone will be very happy to have your beautiful hair in their wig!

Secondhand Serenade

My computer is still under the weather.
Ben was kind enough to lend me one of his laptops while he fixes it.
Thanks Ben!
Luckily this week will be consisting of a lot of homework trying to finish up the semester of school.
Therefore I can catch up on the last couple of weeks.
First things first.
The Secondhand Serenade concert July 25th
at Thanksgiving Point.
{a favorite venue of mine}
Secondhand has been one of my favorites since Italy. I got the first CD the day before I left and listened to it a lot those two months. I don't know why I loved it so much, but I did. And I do. I think because of this that listening to Secondhand just takes me back to Italy. Which leads me to loving them more. I love songs that are written and sung with meaning. John Vesely the lead singer knows how to do just that. It was really good.
Here are some pics of the night...
