Taylor Swift

Last night Ryann took me to the Taylor Swift concert! It was a BLAST! We started the night with a little shopping at Victoria Secret, she is getting married next week! Then we went and had some yummy dinner at CPK. Then it was off to the concert. A new band Gloriana opened. Then Taylor Swift came out. She was awesome! I had heard she is not that great live but I thought she was great! The stage was different for different songs, she changed her clothes a bunch, she came out in the audience a few times and hugged a ton of people and shook hands and signed autographs. She was so cute and so genuine. She could not believe how much people loved her. The concert was sold out! There were a ton of people there! She really would just pause sometimes and look around and take it all in. She seems like such a cute sweet girl. It's refreshing to have someone famous actually be humble about it and thankful to the fans that put them there. She seemed real.

I had so much fun! Thanks Ryann! I am so glad we got to have one big last girl's night out before you are a married woman! Love ya tons!!!

Memorializing

I will never forget the Halloween after my mom passed away.

I was trying to put out some of our decorations to try and brighten our home at such a hard time. My mom would have had them out October 1st but it was already the middle of the month. The days were all a big blurr at that time. I got most of our stuff up but could not find the wreath for the outside door; the one with a witch on it that cackles when someone walks by, the broom and the light up pumpkin. I was devastated. I just wanted so badly to ask my mom where it was. I was mad I couldn't. I looked EVERYWHERE. Nothing. I just cried. I was letting her down I thought. I was really bothered by this for a few days. After giving up I decided to look one more time through the house. I finally found what I was looking for! That cackling witch went up on the door and has been there every Halloween since.

Memorial Day is Monday. I think about my mom everyday, but especially days set aside to remember past loved ones. Today I cleaned out all of our Holiday decorations. The last person who did this was my mom probably 15 years ago. We had so much stuff! I threw A TON of it away (she would be mad at me for sure!) but it was time. I saved all the important stuff. My favorite thing was seeing the boxes that she had hand written on "save but not get up". These are the boxes full of things that my mom loved. Things that would never be used again to decorate our home during a holiday, but things she wanted to keep nonetheless. Lots of these things had sentimental value or were just things she loved. I will admit I threw some away. But I thought about her the whole time. I wondered why she loved some of these things. What she did with some of them. Where they came from. Who they came from.

I am thankful for these little moments to think of her and smile and laugh. Who really keeps stuff they are never planning on using again? Her. Me. At least I know where I get it from!

I can't believe it!

I can't believe Kris won American Idol last night! I was so excited! The whole show was awesome! My favorites of the night were when the top 13 sang 'Rock Star' and when Kris sang 'Kiss a Girl' with Keith Urban. I usually hate that the finale is two hours but it was worth it! There was a lot of good performances.

I also can't believe I just signed up for this. I am only doing the half, don't worry! I am excited though! My goal is to do at least two half marathons a year. I did Moab and since Ogden was full I had to find another one. It will be fun to do a different course. Now I just hope the hips hold up to do it.

who will it be?

Kris or Adam?
I don't think it really matters at this point.
They both will make it big.
All I know is I will actually buy Kris' CD.
I will not buy Adam's.

I am excited to see what happens!

some good things

Last night we had an American Idol Party. We ate delicious European Connection style crepes. It was yummy. Thanks Ben! After a little mishap we eventually saw Idol. Kris was awesome! I loved his version of Kanye West's Heartless. Just Kris and his guitar. Doesn't get much better! I just really hope he makes it to the top two!

Race for the Cure 2009

The 13th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was a huge success. Over 18,000 people were registered for the race last Saturday, May 9th. I love this race. It is such an amazing experience to see all the people that come together to support the cause. It gives me goosebumps to read all of the "I race in memory of" and "I race in celebration of" signs on people's backs. It is always hard for me to write my mom on my own "in memory of" sign but at the same time it is such an honor to be running for her.

Everyone in my family did the race this year except for my dad. One day we will get him there. All five of my mom's kids, my three sister in laws and nine grandchildren. All there together to honor the best mom in the world! I love doing it with everyone. My mom would be proud of us all being there together. And I know she was right there with us.

This year I ran the entire thing with Ammon. I love having someone to run it with. Plus, he runs faster than me so it is a good motivation for me to keep up with him. We stayed together the whole time (except for once when I took off but I wanted to finish together so I slowed back down!) and finished in twenty seven minutes and ten seconds. Our goal was twenty seven minutes so I think we did pretty good! I shed a tear or two as I ran in and saw my mom's pink banner right at the finish line. What a perfect location.

It is fun to hang out after and see all the support that people give to those that have been touched by breast cancer in some way. I never knew there was so many pink things available until I started doing this race! I love it! We chatted, took some pictures, got some food, got this years Ford breast cancer scarfs and headed home.
Another huge success!
Looking forward to next year!

Thanks to everyone who joined our team Bell'in Rosa. It is so fun to have you all join us. Thanks to my family for all being there. Thanks Ammon for running with me, it really means a lot to me. Thanks to my dad for supporting us and of course paying for us. Thanks to the Boyer Company for the banner in honor of my mom. And thanks to my mom for being the best example anyone could ever have. We love and miss you mom!

Very Berry Raspberry Limeade

I don't often order beverages at a restaurant, but after a long day this just sounded so yummy. And yummy it was! This delicious creation can be found at Red Robin Restaurants. It was also funny that after taking the wrong exit on our down from Park City to get to the Murray location we stumbled into the newest Red Robin location at 1313 East Foothill Boulevard.

Go try this drink. It just screams summer nights!

Happy Mother's Day

Yesterday was the Race for the Cure.
{more on that later}
It is always a great way to honor my mom for mother's day.
She is not here with us but I always feel her presence at the race.
I get a little emotional every year running for her.
Happy mother's day mom!

Then we spent the afternoon with my grandma.
It's fun to still have her around to share these special days with.
I love you grandma Hazel!

Happy mother's day to all the mommy's I know!
You are all amazing!

two years

Two years ago today I was getting ready to leave on the biggest and best adventure of my life. May 10, 2007 I left to study abroad for two months in Siena, Italy. I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to do this. It changed my life in so many ways.

I learned so much about myself, other people, other cultures, the world, the gospel, my testimony, and so much more.

I learned to appreciate what I have.
I learned the importance of writing in a journal daily.
I learned that the church is the same and true all over the world.
I learned that there is so much beauty in this world that it will blow your mind.
I learned I love to see the world.
I learned the importance of true friends.
I learned to appreciate my family more.
I learned so so much.

Here are a few of my favorite memories from my two months in Italy. I am so thankful to Sophie and Emilie for the good times that we shared. The talks, the laughs, the tears. It is hard to pick just a few favorite moments since it was just two months worth of greatness. Here are some, in no particular order. If you want to see more I have 4 scrapbooks full of memories I am happy to show anytime!

Me and Soph after hiking Mt. Vesuvius. Yes, an active volcano.

Soph and I at the Palio in Siena. Amazing.

Kabobs, maybe my favorite thing we would eat. Not even Italian, but amazing! These guys loved us so much! They gave us a 'student discount' every time!

Me and Soph in Cinque Terre. Possibly the most beautiful place on earth.

Going through the Uffizi Museum in Florence. Not my favorite city.

Me, Marco and Sophie. We lived with Marco. Yes, with. It's a long story, if you don't know it, I will fill you in, just ask. It turned out to be one of the best things about the trip. I love Marco. He really is amazing. Best thing that could have ever happened.

The branch in Siena. I loved Sundays. I could not understand most of church, but I loved every minute of it. My testimony grew so much just being there. The spirit was always amazing. The people were strong. The missionaries were wonderful. It really made me realize how great the gospel is. I am not sure I ever had a real testimony of my very own until then.

Siena Soccer game. All part of the European experience. And the best part - tickets were only one euro! I called this day magical. It really was.

Friends in Bari. Another long but great story! Who knew having family in Italy would be so awesome! Thanks Em for letting me share those experiences with you!
More good times in the South. These people are amazing.

Kabob pizza. Not an every night item on the menu. The guys finally made it for us since they knew we were leaving soon. It was delicious! Really. Amazing.

Last night. Rome. Last meal. Penne Arrabiata and Fanta (the Italian kind is much better than the American kind). I can still taste it sometimes. Plus, two weeks at the beach can give you a pretty sweet tan!
A dear friend emailed me one of he first days I was gone and said this to me..."Every night, write down in your journal your five loveliest experiences of the day." I did that. Everyday. I am so thankful to her for that. Those things are so fun to look back on. I had so many great experiences. Things I would not trade for the world. I made some life long friendships that have and continue to make me a better person.
I learned. I grew. I saw. I loved. I miss.

Tulip Festival

Last week I went to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point with my dear friend Amanda and her darling little baby Shelby. It was a fun little outing! We went on Thursday so there was not a ton going on but the tulips really were beautiful. It was fun to hang out with Amanda and Shelby and chat and catch up! Shelby is as cute as ever!

Thanks guys! Let's do it again soon!
