Monday night for FHE we did a service project. We took coats around to people who needed them that have come to America from Iran, Iraq, Nepal and other countries.
I decided that night I need to do more service. It really makes you grateful for what you have. I have so much and I am thankful for it, but I feel like I become so comfortable with my life that I don't really realize what it would be like to go without.
These people we visited have next to nothing. They are so thankful for us giving them an old worn coat because it is the nicest thing they may ever own.
Some darling little boys were helping us find the apartments in one of the complexes that we were assigned. There was a little food truck, like an ice cream truck, but ethnic foods driving around. We thought it was a little bit funny. I offered to buy the boys a treat for helping us out. So I walked over with these three young boys who maybe had not eaten all day, and one named Abdi says to me, 'this is kind of expensive.' I got a little bit nervous for a second because I only had twenty dollars cash. All three of the boys ordered some chip type things with lemon and sauce on them. The total was $4.50. It broke my heart. A treat for $1.50 was 'expensive'.
They loved the treat and were so thankful for it. I want to be more like them. Overjoyed with the simplest things.
Another complex we went to we gave some things to a family and the sweet lady offered juice to us all. We think they only had one or two glasses, and juice is probably a delicacy for them, but they were so happy to get what we gave them and have us there that they were willing to give us all they had. Just to show their gratitude.
I am going to try and find somewhere I can do service on a regular basis. I need that in my life. It is so good to humble me and teach me what is really important in this life.
I am so thankful for this opportunity I had. It was amazing

too many in the car...we were safe though.

me and Brett. So happy to serve!

Utah vs Air Force

Ryann and I went to the Utah game on Saturday. It was fun! It was fun to hang out with Ryann. We do not do that enough since she got married.

It rained just enough at the very beginning to get us wet and cold for the rest of the game, but that's what football season if all about!

After a long rough game and overtime, the Utes actually pulled off a win.

Go Utes!

Friday night me, Liz, KaDee and Rebecca went to see Thriller at Kingsbury Hall. It was so much fun! This is something I have always wanted to do but just have not ever gone. I am so glad I did! I loved it! The dances were amazing! Things like this really make me wish I was a dancer.

{We went and had some delicious Market Street before}

{then off to the show}

{I loved the zombies outside}

{I want to be one for Halloween}

wanting to try these

1 1/4 cups cake flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

In a separate bowl, whisk together:

1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Fold mixture into dry ingredients. Melt some butter in skillet over medium heat; pour in 1/4 cup batter for each pancake. Cook pancakes about 3 minutes per side and serve with butter and syrup.

There are a few syrup ideas that can work. A maple with butter and a touch of cinnamon. Or there is a cinnamon cream syrup, that is dreamy with these pumpkin pancakes. Here’s the recipe:

Cinnamon Cream Syrup:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup water
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup evaporated milk

In a small saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water and cinnamon. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook and stir 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cool 5 minutes; stir in evaporated milk. Serve warm.
Let me know if you want to come over when I try these! I just have got to get done with this semester and then I can actually cook again. {although I will find time before then to try these out} Here's to December 8th. Not sure it can come fast enough...

i believe

I believe in manicures.
I believe in overdressing.
I believe in primping at leisure
and wearing lipstick.
I believe in pink.
I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.
I believe in kissing; kissing a lot.
I believe in being strong when
everything seems to be going wrong.
I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe that tomorrow is another day
and I believe in miracles.

call me a quitter

but I had to,
I dropped one of my classes.
{yes, five weeks into the semester}
I knew from the beginning six design classes was a bad idea.
I thought I could do it.

Alas, I cannot.
Not with everything else I have going on.
I will still finish next summer.
So I don't feel bad about it.

I actually feel great about it.
I can sleep again.
I enjoy life again.
I have been so much happier since I made this decision.
Si I know it is right.

So, go ahead,
call me a quitter.
It won't hurt my feelings.

At least I tried right?!

Lawson J Bott

Congratulations to Jason and Meridith on their beautiful new little boy.
He was born October 19, 2009.
Kristy and I went to see him yesterday.
Both Meridith and Lawson are doing great.
So happy to have him out as Lincoln would say.

Baby Lawson

Kristy and Lawson

He is so handsome

Me and Lawson

So cute!
I am not sure how it is possible to love something so small, so much, and so quickly. It amazes me, but I do. I already love him so much! Can't wait to see him again!

I am not sure what I was expecting.
But I don't think this was it.

I wish I would have just read the 10 page children's book again.
It would have saved me eight dollars!
And probably been more enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong,
I laughed. A lot.
But I don't think it was supposed to be funny...

fondue friday

Was a huge success!

Three yummy flavors of cheese fondue.
White and regular chocolate fountains.
A little hot tub for some.

A good time had by all!

Thanks everyone for coming!
Maybe we will have to make this a regular activity.

deja vous

Today I heard the news that a bishop of a ward in my stake passed away yesterday morning of a heart attack.

Memories flooded my mind of when we got similar news in my ward in August of 2008.

I will never forget that day.
I will never forget the feelings I had.
The sadness I felt.
The sadness I felt for many weeks when I walked into the chapel on Sundays.

Sometimes I still am sad.
I miss him.

I will never forget Brother Brown.

The times he would come eat our linger longer food on fast Sundays.
The times he would have us skip Sunday School to talk to him.
The times he would call me after ward prayer to talk about the cute new boys.

My heart goes out to the 42nd ward.
They have a rough road ahead.
Many thoughts and prayers are with them.
And with the Bastian family.
He will always have a special place in that ward.

not my wedding clothes

A conversation with Lincoln the day before the wedding...
{while his mouth was totally blue, wearing his Zac Efron track pants}

Lincoln: Hey guys! Are you getting ready for the wedding?

Me: Yep! We are! Are you all ready?

Lincoln: Yeah, I am ready. But these are not my wedding clothes.

He is so funny! I guess maybe you would have to know him to appreciate this story, but he is a silly little boy! He was excited all week for Kristy and Ben's wedding.

My grandma and grandpa make these delicious wheat raisin cookies.
My dad, Kristy and Ben had dinner there last week and got to have some.
I had ward temple night so I could not go for dinner.
Lucky for me grandma knows I love these cookies
and she brought me some the next day.
My brothers tend to eat stuff if it is around the house during the day
so grandma put my name on them.

How cute is she?!

pumpkin carving

FHE last night was carving pumpkins. It was fun! I did not actually carve one, but the people who did were so creative! It was fun to see what everyone came up with.
Happy carving!

I have been to three grocery stores to find these.
No luck!
I usually have a dish full all through October.
Has anyone seen these anywhere this year?

I had the opportunity to attend a devotional today by Sister Susan W. Tanner. She is truly an amazing woman. She talked about holiness. She talked about temples. And she talked about the Relief Society. It was perfect. I am so thankful I got to hear her.

I had the incredible opportunity to have lunch with Sister Tanner and her husband after the devotional. There were about 12 people invited to this luncheon and I am very thankful I was one of them. The spirit was so strong as she talked to us and answered questions. It was inspiring to hear her talk about the sisters from all over the world and how they are so much a like. It was fun to hear her talk about experiences she had with President Hinckley and share her love for the church.

I am thankful for the opportunity I have to attend LDS Business College and have these experiences. It is different than other schools. It is special. It is so helpful to start classes with prayer. It is awesome to be able to talk about the gospel and relate it to our education.

Today was one of those days that was just inspiring.
I am now inspired to do better.
To be better.
To be the best I can.

7 days!

and I can hardly wait!

I am so excited for these two!
I love you guys!

Sure, I am going to miss Kristy being home, but I am glad that she is leaving me for Ben. I couldn't ask for a better brother in-law. Really.

And I am glad they are close by in case I need to borrow anything...
