so what?

Last night at institute the theme for the night was "So What?"

I got there a little late so I was not sure what was going on.
The lesson was from Doctrine and Covenants.

at one point in the lesson

Sister Crosland asked the question...

"So what?'

So what if bad things happen in our lives? So what if we are still in school? So what if we are in a ward we don't like? So what if we don't have a job? So what if we are still single?

So what?

I know that everything has a time and a season.

There is reason for all the so whats in our lives.

I know that there is a big wonderful plan for me.

I just have to be patient.

And know that it will all come together.

So in the mean time,

I say

So what?!

"super" activity

Every summer my ward has a super activity.
One big weekend getaway to somewhere really fun.

Due to the fact that I have been in the ward for a few years
I have been on a few of these super activities.

Zion, Bryce Canyon, Martin's Cove
to name a few.

Rumor has it.
{and it's not just a rumor}
That university wards are soon coming to an end.

So having a super activity this summer may not be possible.
So this year we improvised.
We did an overnighter this weekend
at the Homestead in Midway.

I figured we would go and have a good time.
And it turned out to be a fun little getaway.
We all headed up when we could Friday night.

We had dinner and a little program.
Then we just hung out.
Played games, swam, ate treats, stayed up until 3 in the morning.
You know, the usual singles ward activities.

Tyler and I traded glasses for a bit.

Kristy and I took awkward engagement photos.

We went to the pool in out winter attire.

We ate treats and looked our best after a nice swim.

Saturday morning we had a delicious breakfast.

Then we did a picture scavenger hunt around town.

I was not totally into this part.
We actually made fun of it a little bit.
My team did not get very many points.
Matt even said at one point...
"I am not in Young Women's. Why am I doing this?!"
Kind of felt like we were 13.
But all in all, we had fun doing it!
My team maybe had the most fun
and that is because we didn't really care.
We just had fun walking and driving around
hanging out and chatting.

Group hug. Tyler's favorite...

Team in the shower. With clothes of course.

Team in a tree.

On top of the crater.

Glasses fogged up in the crater. Not on the hunt list.

In front of the Homestead sign.

Then we went back and looked at every ones pictures.
It was a fun little activity.

Then we of course headed to the outlets
{not part of the activity}
and then came home.

All in all this was a fun little 'super' activity.
It was short and sweet
but I think everyone had fun.
We had a good group there and just enjoyed ourselves.

I have been really enjoying the ward these days.
Of course,
as soon as it's coming to an end I like it again.
I like it, but I am feeling done with this scene.
Done with this phase of my life.
Time for new things to come my way.
But until then,
at least I am enjoying myself.

I got home from work yesterday.
It was really quiet.
And sort of dark.

All I wanted to do was sit and talk to my mom.
I almost went in her room even.
That hasn't happened for a long time.

I think these days,
with lots of craziness
and unknowns
I just needed her.

Sometimes that happens.
Sometimes I am sad about it.
Sometimes I wonder how different things would be
if she was still here.

Sometimes I wish she was there
in her room
waiting for me when I got home.

But she's not.

And sometimes
that is the worst thing of all.

Moab 2011

This was my fifth time running the
Canyonlands Half Marathon in Moab.
Half way to being in the 10 year club!
It was a good time.
I have done it with Liz for the past 3 years

so it was new going with different people.
I missed Liz a little bit!

Jen and Mekelle had never done Moab before.

And this was Adam's first race ever.
So it was fun to have some newbies along.

this year was good.

Not ready.
But I finished.

Friday we made the trek down.

Picked up our packets
and ate at Pasta Jay's.
Then it was off to bed for a restless nights sleep.

Saturday was race day!

We had a good time
and the weather was really nice.
Not much sun, but it was warm-ish.

Jen, Mekelle and I stayed together most of the time.

They stopped for the potty once but
we all met up towards the end.
It's lots of fun to stick together.

It showed how serious we were taking this
when we stopped at mile 7 for a photo.

Miriam came along.
Thanks for being my support team Mir!

After the race we hit town for a bit and made shirts.

My favorite part every year!

After that we went and checked out Gemini Bridges.

That night we ate at Zax.

Sunday we had breakfast at Jailhouse Cafe and headed home.

Overall, another fun Moab Half weekend!

Nothing a little visit here and a few good friends can't help.

"God is eagerly waiting for the chance to answer your prayers & fulfil your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray & He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe."

-Elder Jeffry R. Holland

i need help believing

"It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don’t worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us… If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."

-President Gordon B. Hinckley

I wish I could believe this right now.
But today,
I just can't.
Hopefully tomorrow it will be different.

Fondue Friday

About this time last year we were having
Fondue Friday pretty regularly.
Usually once a month.

Then I got swamped with school.
Over the whole party scene.
And just stopped doing it.

Now that I am done with school.
Actually enjoying the scene again. {a little anyway}
It was time for the long overdue

Fondue Friday.

I didn't know how it would be.
Lots has changed.

Old friends gone.
{not gone gone, just married and moved on other directions}
New friends.

I would say it turned out to be a huge success!

Good food.
Good fun.
Good friends.

Here is to the revival of Fondue Friday.

jumbo mallows.

The one thing I hate about Fondue Friday
is how much chocolate I feel I waste cleaning the chocolate fountain the next day.

Solution to the problem:

Invite some children over and let them have at it!
I think they enjoyed Fondue Saturday
as much as we enjoyed Fondue Friday.

There are milestones we all reach in life.
Sitting up.
Rolling over.
High School graduation.
College graduation.
Getting a job.
Getting married.
Having babies.
I feel like I am on the right track.
Things come in their own time.
I have finally met two important milestones.
Being done with school
and getting a good job have.
Now what?!
After a few months of being a 'grown up'
I feel like I am ready for some more milestones.
Some more goals to reach.
It's unfortunate that the next two milestones in my life
are totally out of my control.
I do all that I can to make them happen.
Be in good places.
With good people.
Doing good things.
I go to ward activities.
I go to parties.
I throw parties.
I feel like I am doing good things.
I have recently decided
that I am in a good place.
There is no more I can do
than I am doing right now.
Things will come with time.
Not always on my time.
But they will come.
I just need to be ready for them.
And welcome them when they come.
