some days

"I wish you could have been there
for the sun & the rain & the long, hard hills.
For the sound of a thousand conversations scattered along the road.
For the people laughing & crying & remembering at the end.
But, mainly,
I wish you could have been there. "

Some days I just need to sit and cry for a minute.
And wish she was here.
But some days are better.
Luckily most days are better.
But it's the days,
like today,
that for some reason,
I just can't help it.

It's days like today that all I want to do is talk to my mom.
The days that I just need to sit on her bed
and have her tell me everything will be okay.
And to have her hug me and tell me what to do next.

Some days I just want her to be here.
Because other people just aren't the same.

Some days a girl just needs her mom.

VA is for lovers {day five}

Monday July 18th
was pretty much just a wrap up day.
Also known as a last shopping day.

We went to a huge mall called Tyson's Corner
and just shopped and hung out all day.
It was fun!

Once we were bored of the mall we went to a little town called
Reston City.
It was just more little shops and such.
We walked around and at at a little Italian place called
Vapiano.

It was a fun ending to a wonderful vacation!

Kristy then took me to the airport.
And then came back to get me...

To make a long story short,
due to weather problems my flight was delayed.
They rescheduled me for the next morning at 7:30am.

I called my boss and my dad and then Kristy and I went back to Matt and Wendy's and just hung out.
We went to the grocery store to buys some treats
and then went back and chatted with Wendy till way too late since we had to get up at 5 to go back to the airport.

Kind of funny!
I have never had a flight delay me to the next day.
But it all worked out!

Thanks again to Kristy and to Matt and Wendy!!!
It was so much fun to be there with you all!

VA is for lovers {day four}

Sunday July 17th
we started off by 8am church.
And hour away.
Let's just say it was an early morning!

After church we went to
Old Town Alexandria and walked around.
We had a yummy lunch at La Madeleine.
Maybe the best meal we ate all week.
It was so yummy!
{I know it was Sunday, but we were on vaca}

We just walked around and checked out the little shops.
We went and had a cupcake at Alexandria Cupcakes.

And went to get some pictures at the White House.

Then we went and met Kristy's brother in law Matt
to go on our private tour of the West Wing.
Now, I am not a very political person.
But this tour was amazing!

We saw all of the important rooms and places that the President uses.
And Matt is so smart that he just had so many interesting things to tell us.

Here we are in the Press Room.
It was really cool to see that.
Something that most only see on TV!

And we went in to the rose gardens.
It was lovely!

Then he took us to the Eisenhower building
where hi office is.
It was a beautiful building.

Then we went and got some Thai food at a little place called Thai Roma.
Then we got a taxi and went back to the car.
It was a long filled day!

More to come...

VA is for lovers {day three}

Saturday July 16th
we went to one of my favorite places from my last trip to DC.
The Eastern Market.

We had breakfast,
famous blueberry buckwheat pancakes
and then shopped the farmers market and the flea market across the street.

Erin met up with us for the morning
it was so fun to see her and catch up.
And Brooke from back home is living there for the summer too so she joined us as well.
It was fun to see them both!

After the market Kristy and I went to Mt. Vernon.
It was amazing to see all the estate of George Washington
and how they lived so long ago.
The living quarters were under construction which was a bummer.
Just means I have to go back I guess!

After our tour we went and had lunch at the Mt. Vernon Inn Cafe.
It was decorated Colonial style
and the waitresses were dressed in Colonial attire.
It was a fun little lunch!

After Mt. Vernon we went and checked out the
Pope Leighey House
designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Then we headed to Georgetown to do some shopping.
We went to Georgetown Cupcakes but the line all the way up the block was not worth it to us.
Getting a show on TLC sure ups your business!

Instead of waiting we just went to another cupcake shop.
Baked and Wired.
And they were delicious!

Then we had our city by night bus tour.
It was really cool to see everything at night
and to have a tour guide telling us all the little facts about the city.

Another fun filled day in the city!

More to come...

VA is for lovers {day two}

Friday July 15th
we headed to Baltimore.
Neither of us had ever been there so we thought it would be fun to check it out!

We walked around the Inner Harbor and around the pier.
We went in a few little shops and just checked it all out.

Then we went to the highest building in the city that had an over look of everything.
It was pretty!

After that we headed to the
American Visionary Arts Museum.
We both loved it!
It was more modern,
kind of crazy,
different
and funny art.
For example:
an exhibit on flatulation that had a whoopee cushion bench.
We sometimes act like we are 12 and sitting on that bench was no different!

This museum was 3 parts,
2 buildings and an outdoor section.
I enjoyed all 3 parts!

After the museum we walked around town some more.
We went in a little candy shop where we found some very odd things...

After the day in Baltimore we decided to head back into DC and eat dinner.
On our drive in we saw this little lovely pop up over the trees.
I really wanted to go do a session but it is closed for maintenance.
Next time for sure!

We wanted to go to Georgetown Cupcakes but Garmin was failing us tonight.
We ended up in the wrong place.
Twice.

So when we realized all the cupcake shops were closed
we decided to head to Ray's Hell Burger
and have some delicious greasy hamburgers.

More to come...
