Give A Gobble

Every year at Harmons we do a food drive
to raise money to provide turkeys
and other needed items
to the Utah Food Bank.
These donations help families in need have a Thanksgiving meal.
Some of our stores have sold over 1,000 turkeys already!

The day before Thanksgiving we go toss 3,500 turkeys {just a tiny portion of what we donate}
from the truck to the building where people come pick them up.
This is one of my favorite work days of the year.

It's so humbling to see the people there,
in line so early in the morning,
in the freezing cold,
just to be able to have a Thanksgiving meal.
Or any food at all.

Please go to any Harmons and donate
now through November 24th.
It's only $10 to help those in need.

weekends

I feel like I live for the weekend every week.
I just like not having anything to do
and being able to spend more than a few hours with Ryan.

This weekend was fun and full of time together
and time with good friends.

Friday night we went to the Rice's for dinner.
It was so good to see everyone and catch up.

Saturday we did the usual Saturday things.
Then I went to lunch with Rhonda and Ryann.
Again, it was great to catch up.
Then Ryan and I went to run a few errands.
After we found out one of our stops closed at 2:30
we went to Ruby Snap instead.
Today marked Ryan's first time at Costco and Ruby Snap.
Pretty productive I'd say!
That night we had a get together with the Elders Quorum presidency.
It's been fun to be in our callings and get to know more people.

Now it's Monday again.
Two day weekends are not enough!

go utes!

I got some tickets from work
for the Utah game Saturday night.
They ended up being on the FRONT row!
It was so fun being that close!

Utah lost to Arizona by ONE point.
Pretty pathetic game honestly.

But we had fun and enjoyed our front row view!

baby reese

Suday was Reese's baby blessing.
I love her a lot.
I could hold her all day long.
{as long as she's not crying}

recipe of the day

Sunday was Resse's baby blessing
so I offered to bring treats to the luncheon.
I wanted something fun and yummy that used Reese's.

Of course I looked to Pinterest to supply me some options.
I chose Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats
from Key Ingredients.

Seriously, a really good decision.

Try these, you won't regret it.
I used a little less marshmallows
because I forgot to factor in the +2 cups when I grocery shopped
but they were so yummy and plenty gooey.
I also sprinkled some chopped Reese's on top.

Enjoy!

Ingredients

6              cups Cocoa Krispies Cereal
16-18     Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, diced
5              Tbs butter or margarine
3              Tbs light karo syrup
1              (10 ounce) package plus 2 heaping cups miniature marshmallows
            cup peanut butter
½             cup chocolate chips

Directions

In a large bowl, combine cereal and diced Reese's. Set aside. Spray a 9 x 13 in. pan with cooking spray and set aside.

In a large pot melt butter over low heat. Add karo syrup and marshmallows and stir continuously until mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and add cereal mixture into the pot and fold together just until cereal is evenly coated. (Peanut butter cup pieces will fall apart as you fold together your ingredients, so don't over mix this.) Press mixture into the sprayed 9 x 13 in. pan. Set aside.

In a small microwave safe bowl, add peanut butter. Microwave for 30 second to a minute to melt. Set aside to let cool slightly. In a separate small microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate at 30 second intervals, stir between intervals, until smooth. Set aside to let cool slightly.

When peanut butter is cool enough to handle, transfer into a small zip lock bag. Clip a small piece out of the corner and pipe onto rice krispie treats, zig-zagging back and forth. Repeat steps with chocolate, placing in a small zip lock bag, and piping over the peanut butter.

Cool, cut and serve.

Makes a 9 x 13 in. sheet of treats.

I of course doubled it and filled a cookie sheet.

Halloween

I cannot believe it is November already.

Halloween this year came and went quickly.
Which I don't mind,
I don't get overly excited about Halloween.

I wanted to do a couples costume again
but I couldn't think of anything easy.
I chose a dark angel and Ryan went as Walter White.

We had treats, stew and bean dip for dinner, and of course sugar cookies.

After work my siblings all brought their kids over to trick or treat.
That's the best part about Halloween,
the kids!
I am glad they all stopped by.

On to another November and another holiday season.
I love this time of year!

cabin getaway

We went to the cabin for the weekend.
It is so nice up there,
we love it!

We did nothing but relax
and enjoy our time away.

On Saturday we went and hiked Periodic Springs.
I don't know if I've ever been there.
It is a spring that flows every 20 minutes or so.
We watched it stop and start a couple of times.
Then we headed back when the sunset
because it was getting cold fast!

It's so nice to just get away for a few days.
I always wish it could be longer!
